New York Christmas Breaks

October 29th, 2010 by Holiday Lover in New York Breaks

Visiting New York City for Christmas is very popular. Maybe you are a couple who just want to get away from the regular family Christmas and just take a break and do something a little difference. If that sounds like you then you won’t be disappointed to take a break around Christmas time maybe even decide to stay over to see the New Year in.

Over the Christmas period, New York City comes alive with festive lights, decorations, street performers, Christmas displays and a whole lot more. It’s a great place to spend the holiday period and for this reason can get quite busy!

For one of the most spectacular sites, head for the Rockafella Center to see the huge Christmas tree which is on display there every year. In addition, there is ice skating which is another popular leisure activity there over the Christmas period.

Central Park looks beautifully lit over the Christmas period as well as being host to carol singers, craft stalls and a large ice rink.

If Christmas shopping is your thing then of course New York has plenty to keep you busy. Be sure to check out the big Christmas windows displays at New Yorks iconic stores such as Macys and Bloomingdales.

The weather can be cold during December in New York, so be sure to pack a coat. It’s usually under 10 degrees celsius and can reach freezing. Of course many people dream of a white Christmas but is it really possible? Although its difficult to find accurate statistics on this, its apparently about a 1 in 5 chance so you might be lucky! the last time it actually snowed on Christmas Day itself however was in 2002.
